Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
